Alan Hutton has heralded Anthony Ralston for flourishing under "immense pressure" at Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland defender admitted the 22-year-old had been written off by the media ahead of the new season.

Ralston has started all of Celtic's games this season and has scored two goals in as many league games this season.

Postecoglou spoke to Sky Sports in July about his transfer targets and outlined right-back as a "key area" for recruitment.

The Scottish Sun reported in June Celtic had triggered a one-year extension clause in the Ralston's contract.

He played just once last season with Jonjoe Kenny and Jeremie Frimpong ahead in the pecking order.

Hutton spoke of the pressure on Ralston to deliver despite the clamour for a new signing.

He told Football Insider's Russell Edge: "There’s been an immense amount of pressure on him to perform.

“He’s playing a different role this season under the new boss. You have to be technically talented to receive the ball in the middle of the pitch like that.

“He’s taken to the new role and the pressure really well and it just speaks to his mental toughness.

“Coming into a team which is low on confidence and a team supposedly crying out for a right-back can’t have been easy.

“Every paper and every journalist has been saying that Celtic need a right-back whilst he is playing.

“Fair play to him for taking all of that on and scoring a couple of very good goals."
