Hutton: Celtic talks to sign 24-yr-old can 'soften the blow' of likely Ajer exit
Alan Hutton claims Celtic can soften the blow of Kristoffer Ajer’s departure by signing Freddie Woodman as part of the deal.
The former Rangers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists Ajer must be desperate to leave Parkhead.
On 1st June, Football Insider revealed Celtic are among a cluster of clubs who are keen on signing the former England Under-21 international.
It is understood Celtic have enquired about Woodman, 24, during discussions with Newcastle over Ajer.
On May 22, the Daily Mail claimed the Magpies are considering an £8million move for the defender ahead of the transfer window opening.
Ajer has just 12 months left on his contract with the Hoops and it is likely the club will cash in this summer if he does not agree to sign a new deal.

This site understands Newcastle have between £8-£10million to spend on new players this summer.
Hutton insists there is a deal to be done between Newcastle and Celtic regarding both players
“He’s a massive player for Celtic,” Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge
“We know he’s desperate to leave. It’s an opportunity to go and play in the Premier League.
“You would like to think there’s a deal to be done that can help both sides. Celtic will want money as well.
“If a deal for Woodman could be arranged it would soften the blow for everyone.”
Woodman, 24, has spent the last two campaigns on loan at this season’s Championship playoff losers Swansea City.
As it stands, he is set to return to Newcastle ahead of pre-season.
