Alan Hutton has tipped Nuno Espirito Santo to get the best out of Matt Doherty at Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and Scotland defender claimed Doherty will be "really happy" with Nuno's appointment.

Spurs then unveiled the ex-Wolves boss as Jose Mourinho's successor earlier this week (30 June).

He ended his four-year association with Wolves at the end of the season and Doherty was a key part of his side before joining Tottenham last summer.

"You have a feeling about those sorts of things," Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

"When there's a manager that knows you well and can get the best out of you, it's huge."

"I think Matt Doherty has been a little bit unfortunate. He's come into a Tottenham side that played a completely different style to what he was used to at Wolves.

"A manager coming in who knows you inside and out can get the best out of you. I'm pretty sure he'll be the one player in that dressing room who will be really happy with that appointment going through.

"You would like to think he can get the best out of him."

Doherty, a 20-time Republic of Ireland international, failed to settle in his first season at Spurs after his £15million move.

He featured in 29 games across all competitions but started just 13 Premier League games.
