Hutton excited by Lundstram transformation after 'best player by a mile' Rangers claim

Alan Hutton has claimed John Lundstram will be brimming with confidence at Rangers after Steven Gerrard’s rave review.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender suggested the 27-year-old was finally finding his feet after an inconsistent start at Ibrox.

Speaking to Rangers TV after the win over Dundee, Gerrard insisted Lundstram was “the best player on the pitch by a mile”.

The Gers boss branded the summer signing an “absolute powerhouse” and a “fantastic player”.

Lundstram had struggled for form during his early days in Glasgow.

However, Hutton, who often works for Rangers TC, suggested the manager’s comments would give him a massive boost of confidence.

“There’s nothing better than hearing those sort of words from your manager,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“It’s only going to breed confidence in yourself moving forward. He was definitely a driving force in that midfield.

“I think the biggest thing for him, and why it’s maybe taken him so long, is Rangers are a dominant team in terms of possession of the football.

“He’s maybe not been used to that down south, playing on the counter-attack, having to do the defensive duty.

“In Scotland, he’s got a lot of the ball, he’s got a lot of possession. He needs to make things tick, drive forward, create opportunities.

“He’s still finding his feet, he’s still learning the type of football that Rangers player. It’s going to take time but I think we are starting to see it now.

“He’s played a few games, he’s been a little bit up and down but he can only build on his last performance. I thought he was very good.

“Moving into the weeks coming up, he’ll take great heart from that. Hopefully, he’ll keep getting better and better as he learns the way Rangers want to play football.”
