Morgan Sanson is drawing favourable comparisons to John McGinn on the Aston Villa training ground, according to Alan Hutton.
The former Villa and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, has revealed nearly everyone at the club is saying the same thing about the new signing after his performances behind closed doors.
The 26-year-old arrived from Olympique Marseille during the January transfer window but is yet to make his debut for the Villans.
He featured in the matchday squad in the win against Southampton but was forced to watch from the sidelines as an unused substitute.
Hutton, who is still in touch with much of the Villa squad and staff after his time at the club, has admitted he is excited by the prospect of seeing what the Frenchman has to offer, especially after the comparisons to fan favourite McGinn.
Asked what he had heard about the new arrival’s impact from his old teammates, Hutton told Football Insider: “They’re all saying he’s technically very good, he’s aggressive, he can run, so he ticks all the boxes for that midfield job.
“Everything I hear is that he’s quite like John McGinn in a way and that’s from a number of different people that I’ve heard that, so I’m excited to see him, he’s obviously going to have to bide his time, Villa are playing very well at the moment.
“It’s going to be difficult for him to get in, I know that. I think John McGinn and Douglas Luiz have done ever so good but there could be a possibility of a rotation so we can have a look at him.
“Obviously, it’s difficult with so many games that you’re playing, you don’t really train too much and what you find is the starting XI don’t actually do the training.
“It’s just maybe the subs that train so it’s difficult to get a judge on a small training session.”
