Hutton: 'I feel sorry for' Bolingoli after latest Celtic twist

Alan Hutton has admitted he “feels” for Boli Bolingoli after his return to the Celtic starting XI against Motherwell.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers defender insisted it would be “very difficult” for the 26-year-old to get up to speed in the Hoops’ side after being left out the squad in recent weeks.

Bolingoli made his second appearance of the season in the 2-0 win over Motherwell.

Other than the defeat to Livingston, he has been left out of the matchday squad for Celtic’s seven other league games.

He was also not registered for the Bhoys’ Europa League squad.

Academy product Adam Montgomery took Bolingoli’s place in the starting XI for Tuesday’s clash with Ferencvaros.

Hutton admitted the Belgian defender would struggle to impress without a run of games.

Discussing Bolingoli’s fleeting appearances this season, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It’s very difficult. Most players have been in that situation, I have.

“As a defender especially, you need to run of games to get up to speed. You get to know your players beside you, things like that.

“It’s very difficult to be in for one game, out for four and back in for one.

“From that point of view I do feel sorry for him. He has a second chance at Celtic.

“Postecoglou spoke earlier in the season about how well he’d been doing in training and he was due an opportunity. It was up to him to take it.

“As a footballer, you just want to play games. It’s really up to him to go and stamp his authority. There’s an opportunity at left-back so it’s up to him whether he can grasp it or not.”

Bolingoli’s return to the first team has coincided with Greg Taylor suffering a shoulder injury that could rule him out until November.
