Hutton: I heard Lundstram 'screaming' at Rangers teammate - and this is what he said
Alan Hutton has insisted Rangers have pulled off a “great signing” after what he saw and heard from John Lundstram against Real Madrid.
The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 27-year-old was already proving himself a “leader” at Ibrox.
Lundstram played the opening 45 minutes in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Real before being replaced by Scott Arfield.
The former Sheffield United man joined Steven Gerrard’s side on a free transfer earlier this summer.
Hutton, who was at Ibrox to watch Sunday’s game, raved over the midfielder’s “powerful” performance.
However, he also highlighted Lundstram’s communication and leadership qualities.

“He’s very good, very vocal,” Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“One of the centre-halves, I think it was Helander. The ball bounced and instead of taking a touching and passing it out, he just launched it up the pitch.
“Lundstram was screaming at him to play football, play the ball: ‘There’s a pass to be made, give me the ball.’
“It showed you the confidence he’s got. He’s willing to take the ball in tight areas, at the edge of the box and try and play football. He’s growing with every game I see him.
“His first game against Tranmere, he had done a lot of training. He looked a little bit leggy, I think now you’re seeing the best of him. He’s getting up and down the pitch, very comfortable and composed.
“He just gives you something a little bit different to what they’ve got. He’s very powerful and you can tell that he’s a leader. He’s only been in the door a few weeks.
“You can tell that he’s really taking charge of this situation at such a big club. It’s really good to watch, I just feel that Rangers are really clicking at the moment, at the right time.
“There is obviously pressure on them to go out and perform now they’re the champions.
People are going to want to shoot them down but he can definitely handle that. He can definitely handle himself and he looks a great signing.”
