Hutton predicts Rangers to sign exciting pair this summer to replace McGregor and Davis
Alan Hutton has predicted Rangers will look to sign long-term replacements for the likes of Allan McGregor and Steven Davis this summer.
The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Light Blues would be planning to bring in “understudies” who could step up in a year or two.
McGregor, 39, and Davis, 36, both signed new one-year extensions at Ibrox earlier this season.
The pair have both played huge parts in the Gers’ title-winning campaign.
However, Hutton insisted Rangers would have to start preparing for a future without the experienced duo.
As such, he suggested the Gers could focus on signing young players who could develop into first-team stars under their tutelage.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think when it comes to goalkeeper, Jon McLaughlin, he’s no spring chicken himself. I think he’s about 33 as well.
“So that’s going to be good competition for Allan next season. Moving forward, I think they’ll have to look at certain positions and try and bring people in. Whether it will be this summer, I don’t think they have to react that quickly.
“But definitely, they will be planning ahead. They know that those boys, Steven Davis, Allan McGregor, they’ve only got a certain amount of years left in them. They’re squeezing everything out of them at the moment.
“They’re going to have to look to the future. Whether that’s this summer, bringing players in to be understudies, learn off these guys and then take over in a year’s time, maybe that’s the process that Rangers will be looking for.”
Davis played 49 times across all competitions this season, with two goals under his belt.
Meanwhile, McGregor kept 22 clean sheets in 42 appearances.
