Alan Hutton has admitted he fears Glen Kamara may be considering leaving Rangers after an update on contract talks.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Ibrox defender suggested the midfielder would be in high demand after his outstanding performances.
Speaking to Rangers TV on Sunday, Gerrard revealed the Light Blues were “still trying” to tie the 25-year-old down to a new contract.
Kamara confirmed last month that talks were underway, with two years left on his current terms.
The Finland international has been a mainstay for Gerrard this season, with 46 appearances under his belt so far.
He has not missed a single matchday squad across all competitions.
Hutton insisted he was desperate to see Kamara pen a new deal at Ibrox.
However, he admitted Gerrard’s comments did not fill him with optimism over the midfielder’s future.
“Those kind of words, it doesn’t sound great,” Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“I mean, obviously, there are other clubs that are looking at him. That’s only going to happen when a player such as himself plays at such a high standard week in, week out. I think there’s more to come, I think he can get better.
“So, if the opportunity to move back down south comes, I’m sure that’s something he’s going to look at. As a Rangers supporter, I would love to see him commit his future to Rangers because I see them building for the future. I would love him to be part of it.
“However, he’s going to have to have to assess these options when they come up. I understand that as a player but talking from a total Rangers side of it, I just want to see him at Rangers. He’s an integral part of the team and he will be for the future if he stays.”
Gerrard told Rangers TV: “Glen is someone who we are still trying and talking to commit here as he is a big player for us.
“There are a lot of players we are working with to try and get them tied up here as they are so important for the team moving forward.”
