Hutton tips hardly-seen player to shine for Aston Villa v Chelsea after Martinez update
Alan Hutton has backed hardly-seen Jed Steer to shine if he replaces Emi Martinez in goal for Aston Villa this weekend.
The former Villa defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest on Martinez.
Martinez was one of four Argentina players, along with Villa teammate Emi Buendia, to be accosted by Brazilian health authorities last week.
The pair are accused of not following the country’s COVID protocols.
Express and Star (7 September) report both players will fly to Croatia before heading to the UK to avoid quarantining for an extended period.
However, this means both players will miss their club’s game against Chelsea on Saturday evening.

Steer, 28, who has made just 34 Villa appearances in seven years at the club, could be selected to replace Martinez.
“This is what happens,” Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“You don’t want to see your teammate miss games whether it’s through injury or anything else.
“But it gives another player that opportunity and I always thought whenever Jed has been called upon, he’s done really well.
“He always stands up to the task. You can be a number two but when you are called upon you have to perform to that high level.
“This is another opportunity to showcase his talent and he’s got it all. He is a very good keeper.
“I played alongside him and I know what he’s about. We know he isn’t going to overtake Martinez as number one but it’s always good to remind people how good a player you really are.”
