Hutton tips Villa to push Arsenal to 'breaking point' amid new Smith-Rowe bid update

Alan Hutton has suggested Aston Villa could be getting close to Arsenal’s “breaking point” as another Emile Smith Rowe bid is readied.

The former Villa defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, heralded his old side for going all out for the attacking midfielder.

As revealed by Football Insider on Tuesday (July 6th), Aston Villa are prepared to launch a third bid for the 20-year-old after offers £25million and £30million were rebuffed.

A Villa source has told this site the Gunners have not given the Midlands heavyweights a definitive ‘no’ in their pursuit.

It is understood Villa’s next bid will be close to the club-record fee spent on Emi Buendia.

Dean Smith’s side paid a club-record fee of £33million, rising to £38million including add-ons, for the Argentine.

Hutton heralded Villa’s ambition and suggested Arsenal would sell for the right price.

Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “It doesn’t surprise me. They’ve identified the man that they want and they’re going hard for it.

“They’re not wasting any time. It looks like they want to organise and shape their squad as early as possible to start the season on a good run.

“Villa are obviously pushing real hard. We’ll have to wait and what they’re willing to go to but surely there’s a breaking point.

“If the money is right, he will go. It’s going to be really interesting.

“It’s really good as a fan and former player to sit up here and see it.

“They’re really pushing to build a squad that is going to be there for the future. Young, hungry players.”

Smith Rowe has two years left on his contract at Arsenal.

However, the Gunners are in talks over new-and-improved terms for the homegrown starlet.
