Alan Hutton has warned Antonio Conte could “ruffle the feathers” of the Tottenham dressing room if appointed manager.
The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 51-year-old would not be scared of dishing out some home truths to the underperforming Spurs stars.
A Tottenham source has told Football Insider today that the club are increasingly confident of appointing Conte after extensive talks over the last two days.
It is understood the north Londoners have held negotiations over a long-term, £10million-a-year deal for the former Chelsea boss.
Hutton admitted Conte is the sort of proven winner Tottenham need to secure some silverware.
However, he insisted the Italian could cause some friction in the dressing room.
Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “I’d like to see it. I think I’d like to see it.
“Obviously, he’s very animated, he’s very passionate. We’ve seen it at a lot of the clubs he’s been at, like Milan and Chelsea. If you’re looking at his record he’s won everywhere he’s managed.
“This is what Tottenham want. They want silverware. He’s the type of guy that will not be scared to go in that dressing room and tell people the truth and what he’s after. He’ll ruffle the feathers if he needs to.
“He’s that guy. He doesn’t normally stay at clubs that long, but he does win things.”
Conte is currently out of work after leaving Inter Milan last month despite winning Serie A.
He won 51 of his 76 Premier League games in charge at Chelsea, a rate of 2.14 points per game.
