Alan Hutton has revealed Allan McGregor is not willing to talk about the prospect of a new contract at Rangers amid the push for the Premiership title.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender, who is best friends with the Ibrox shot-stopper, has admitted to pressing the goalkeeper to lift the lid over whether he is going to put pen to paper.
As revealed by Football Insider back in December, Rangers were planning to offer the 38-year-old a new deal ahead of the January transfer window, with his current terms set to expire in the summer.
The veteran keeper has been in outstanding form for Steven Gerrard this season and put in a man of the match performance to help the Gers to a second derby day win of the season over Celtic on Saturday.
However, despite the Light Blues’ desire to keep him tied down, Hutton has revealed McGregor is focused solely on securing the league title this term.
Discussing the prospect of a new contract for the 38-year-old, Hutton told Football Insider: “I have asked him, obviously I want to know, I think he’s in the form of his life and I’ve kind of asked him: ‘What’s the script, has there been any word of it?’
“Even to me – it just shows you the type of guy he is – he says it’s not the right time to speak about it and that’s what he told me, you would have thought he would have given me something.
“He’s like no, it’s not the right time to be talking about stuff like that, he’s just focused on what’s in front and fair play to him, I think that’s a brilliant way to look at it, not many people would be like that in his situation. Fair play to him.”
McGregor has played a total of 22 times across all competitions this season, with 14 clean sheets under his belt.
He has faced added competition from summer signing Jon McLaughlin this term but the former Sunderland man, who started seven consecutive league games between August and September, has made just two Premiership appearances since.
