Kevin Phillips has tipped Juan Foyth to complete a move to Leeds United this summer and believes the defender could be a shrewd replacement for Ben White.
The former Sunderland and Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed a move for the 22-year-old is “almost a no-brainer” given his low asking price and experience in the Premier League.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Victor Orta is monitoring the Argentina international ahead of a potential summer move and Spurs are willing to listen to offers.
Foyth, despite still having two years left on his contract, will be available for just £8million in the next transfer window.
However, Phillips admits that the defender, who can play at centre-half or right-back, is yet to prove that he is or can be as good as Ben White.
“I like Foyth,” he told Football Insider.
“He has shown that he can play in the Premier League, it does not faze him.
“If Ben White moves on then you are at least replacing him with Premier League experience. He is a good player but there is question marks over whether he is the same calibre as Ben White.
“A run of games would certainly benefit him. It has been a while since he has played regularly but I like the qualities he possesses.
“I could definitely see that one happening.
“It is almost a no-brainer. If they could get that over the line it would be a good deal because it would not cost a fortune.”
Foyth has featured predominantly as a substitute under Jose Mourinho and has made just seven appearances this season.
The future of impressive loanee Ben White is yet to be solved with a host of Premier League clubs set to rival Leeds for the Brighton defender.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that senior star will be absent when training resumes.
