'I Feel Sorry For Him' - Kevin Phillips fears for 'Devastated' Leeds player
Kevin Phillips fears Leeds United defender Diego Llorente’s latest injury setback will have a long-lasting psychological impact on the player.
The former England international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed that the 27-year-old will be “devastated” after he hobbled off of Tuesday night’s 2-1 win over Newcastle United after just 10 minutes.
Llorente has made just two appearances for the Whites this season and is yet to complete a full 90 minutes.
The summer signing from Real Sociedad has suffered with a number of muscular injuries since he arrived at Elland Road.
Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that Llorente’s latest setback is a hamstring problem which will rule him out for close to a month.
When asked if the injury would have a psychological impact on the centre-half, Phillips told Football Insider:

“When you have had so many injuries you are just waiting for it to go again.
“The crucial thing is that you do not rush him back. If his hamstring goes again, that could be him done for the season.
“Marcelo Bielsa has got a big decision to make. You have to be careful.
“I feel sorry for Llorente. He will be devastated. He probably thinks that every time he goes on the pitch he is going to get injured.
“It is amazing that he comes through an Under-23s game fine and then he goes and gets injured 10 minutes into a Premier League match.
“I would certainly look at the training routine.”
Leeds are also without Robin Koch and Gaetano Berardi because of injury, but the centre-back’s are nearing a return.
Both are expected to be back in contention for the newly-promoted side by the end of the month.
