Noel Whelan has touted Leeds United to launch a double raid for Said Benrahma and Olle Watkins if Brentford are not promoted this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds striker believes the 24-year-old pair will be in high demand after their fantastic performances this season.
The Athletic’s Phil Hay has reported that the Whites are admirers of both of the Bees’ attacking stars and believe deals could be done if the Bees lose the play-off final to Fulham.
Watkins is a natural centre forward with 25 goals in 46 Championship appearances this season.
Benrahma has been utilised as a wide forward by Thomas Franks but has still managed to net 17 goals and contribute nine assists.
Whelan believes that both players would be welcome additions at Leeds and suggests there is no reason why the duo could not be linking up at Elland Road in the Premier League.
Whelan told Football Insider: “A player with loads of talent, seems like a really level-headed young man.
“He’s got the pace, he’s got the power, he’s got the eye for goal and I had a feeling we would be raiding some of the teams in the Championship for their better players.
“He is an outstanding player, a player that I feel in a couple of years will be bedded into the Premier League and will be hitting 20 goals a season. It all depends on whether Brentford get to the Premier League or not.
“If they do, they won’t be going anywhere. If they don’t, I’m sure Brentford have been a selling club, they can’t afford to keep some of these players and he’ll be a wanted man. If we can get him, then fantastic.
“It could be a double signing, Benraham and Ollie Watkins, you never know – two players that I’m sure are looked upon by many Premier League clubs.”
