'Utter tripe' - Everton fans divided as 23-year-old mainstay axed v Swansea

By Matt Bullin

Everton fans are divided whether dropping Ross Barkley to the bench against Swansea was the right decision and they have taken to Twitter to show it.

In Ronald Koeman’s line-up, Barkley and Enner Valencia drop to the bench, as Gareth Barry and Kevin Mirallas come into the side.

Everton announced their line-up to face the Swans via their official Twitter feed prior to the 5.30pm kick off.

Barkley played the full 90 minutes last time out as Everton were beaten 3-0 at Goodison Park by Chelsea last time out and clearly did not impress his boss.

The 22-time England international has enjoyed mixed form this season, but he has still been a mainstay of the Toffees side, making 36 appearances in all competitions.

The 23-year-old has scored five goals and supplied nine assists this term, but has been in the media spotlight over his contract talks.

The talks may have affected his form and he has put in some indifferent performances in recent weeks, especially against Chelsea.

Everton fans had mixed reactions to him being dropped to the bench – some were happy to see him out of the starting XI, however others demanded to know the reason for his omission.
