'I see why fans love him' - Exclusive: Kevin Phillips drools over Newcastle player
Kevin Phillips has hailed Allan Saint-Maximin as a special talent who loves being at Newcastle United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Sunderland idol explained why the 22-year-old is emerging as a real fans favourite at St James’ Park.
Saint-Maximin has quickly established himself as a key player under Steve Bruce since joining from Nice for around £16million last summer.
The French forward received the FA Cup goal of the round award for his emphatic extra-time winner at Oxford United on Tuesday.
It was only his second goal for Newcastle but Phillips is confident there is plenty more to come from the speed machine.
“You are not quite sure what you are going to get from him,” Phillips told Football Insider. “He can go either way, he’s strong and scored a great goal in midweek.

“The fans love him, I can see why, and he loves being there and that is a great sign for Newcastle United.”
Saint-Maximin had spells at Saint Etienne, Monaco and Nice before sealing his move to United in a deal that made him the club’s third most expensive ever signing.
He has suffered a recurring hamstring injury this season and has spoken previously of the adjustment he is having to make to English football.
Capped seven times by France at Under-21 level, Saint-Maximin has made 12 Premier League starts among 16 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle, scoring once and assisting twice.
In other Newcastle United news, it can be REVEALED that West Brom have set their sights on Toon senior player who’s been a regular this season.
