'I tell you what...' - Exclusive: Bruce reacts as Everton work on signing 'Outstanding' player

Alex Bruce claims Everton could sell one of their senior centre-backs if they sign “outstanding” Tyrone Mings from Aston Villa this summer.

The former Leeds and Hull defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has lauded the array of centre-back options already at Goodison Park and suggests one could make way for the England international.

As revealed by Football Insider, Everton have made an approach to sign the 27-year-old this summer and he is expected to push for a move if Villa are relegated.

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti already has the likes of Michael Keane, Yerry Mina and Mason Holgate as centre-back options at Goodison Park.

Bruce insists Mings would be a fantastic addition to the squad on Merseyside but admits one of the Toffees’ current stars may have to leave.

Bruce told Football Insider: “I tell you what, they’ve got an array of centre-backs if they bring in Tyrone Mings, it might be a case of one in, one out.

“Whoever that might be, we’ll have to wait and see but listen, there would be good competition for places in that central defensive role for Everton if they do bring him in.

“I think he’d be a good signing for a lot of teams, if Villa do go down, him and Jack Grealish are probably the two outstanding ones who, I’m sure, there will be a swarm of wasps around the honey pot trying to get hold of them.

“They could go into a lot of Premier League teams and really improve them.”

Mings has played 33 times across all competitions for Villa this season and picked up his first two England caps back in late 2019.

He initially joined the Villans on loan back in January 2019 and turned the move permanent in a £26million.
