'I was shocked' - Exclusive: Darren Bent reacts as West Ham fume over player treatment

Darren Bent has admitted that he was “shocked” that West Ham did not recall Grady Diangana from his loan spell with West Brom in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England international claimed that the 21-year-old has a big future ahead of him in east London, and could have been an impactful asset for the Hammers during the second half of this season.

Football Insider revealed earlier in the week that the Hammers have been left furious by the Baggies’ treatment of the winger during his recent issues with a hamstring injury.

And Bent believes that the sooner the player is back with his parent club, the better for the Hammers.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I was shocked when they didn’t call him back in January, because I was convinced they were going to bring him back from West Brom and kind of kill them a little bit – like Leicester did with Harvey Barnes last year.

“He’s exciting, he’s young, you’ve got to give him an opportunity.

“I’m really excited to see what he can do because I think he can do big things in this league.”

Diangana has been a key figure for Albion this season, registering five goals and six assists in 21 Championship appearances for the Midlands club, but hasn’t played since January 20th because of injury.

The Baggies are currently in an automatic promotion spot in the second tier, six points clear of third-placed Fulham and one behind league leaders Leeds United.
