Aston Villa fans react on Twitter to Di Matteo telling Lescott he can leave on a free
By Amir Mir
Joleon Lescott has been he can leave Aston Villa on a free transfer – and supporters praised Roberto Di Matteo for sanctioning the defender’s exit.
The Telegraph claim that Di Matteo has told the former Premier League winner he can depart the club for nothing a year before his contract expires.
Villa fans lambasted the player last season for his actions off the field and performances on the field, and it is no surprise many were pleased with the manager’s decision to let him leave.
Many stated that they would not miss the player after he was considered a main reason for the club’s relegation last season.
Lescott has a year remaining on the two-year contract that he signed when he made a £1.5million switch to Villa Park last summer from rivals West Brom, but endured the worst season in his career.

However, Villa fans were not sympathetic towards the Birmingham-born player, who is said to be a target for Leeds.
Here are the reactions of fans on Twitter.
Leeds might be signing Lescott on a free. Still won't get their money's worth out of him ???? #avfc

I get the dislike for Lescott, but for me he wasn't even the worst culprit last season. He showed more than Richards/Gabby did IMHO #avfc

Yet another player I won't sadly miss. Lescott let a lot of people down & many will be glad to see the back of him #avfc
