'I would be fuming' - Exclusive: Phillips frets over Sky Everton player report

Kevin Phillips says he would “fuming” if he was Everton after Barcelona made a late offer to tempt Richarlison to the Camp Nou this January.

The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, heavily criticised the timing of Barca’s bid and conceded speculation over the move could disrupt the Brazilian.

Sky Sports reported that the 22-year-old was the subject of an £85million bid ‎from the Catalan side as they search for a replacement for the injured Luis Suarez.

The offer was immediately rejected by the Merseyside club, who recently tied Richarlison down to a new five-year deal at Goodison Park.

When asked whether the ongoings could affect the player, Phillips told Football Insider: “If I am Carlo Ancelotti, I would be fuming. Firing in a bid that late on in the window. Because it does not matter who you are, it is going to affect the player. It is going to turn his head.

“All of a sudden you are reading that Barcelona has come in for you. As a player, you think, ‘Blimey, I would not mind a bit of that.’ You just hope that the player is not affected by it going into the next two or three games.

“Everton need to pick up some results and he is one of their key players. He is a good player but whether he is worth £85million is open for debate.”

The former Watford striker has scored 24 goals in 61 appearances for the Toffees, 10 of those coming this season.

The attacker was signed under previous manager Marco Silva in July 2018, in a deal that could rise to £50million, and has been a mainstay under Carlo Ancelotti.

In other Everton news, Paul Robinson claims the Toffees may live to regret decision regarding star man’s future.
