I would love to play against 'awful' Man United star Maguire - pundit
Frank McAvennie has slammed Harry’s Maguire’s Man United form after another poor display against Newcastle.
The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims Premier League strikers look forward to facing the defender.
Man United were second best all evening as they drew 1-1 with Newcastle United on Monday (27 December).
Maguire, 28, played the full 90 minutes but failed to keep a clean sheet in the league for the twelfth time this season.
McAvennie was not impressed with the defender and claimed he could still do a job against Maguire.
“I would fancy myself against Harry Maguire,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild
“I’m 62 and I would love to play against him. He was awful in that Newcastle match.
“Everyone in red was poor but Maguire does this every week. How he cost £80million I will never know.
“The way he’s playing, £8million would have been a rip-off. He’s such a problem for them.
“He always makes mistakes and they can’t get rid of him. No one in their right mind would sign Harry Maguire.
“Premier League strikers must be so happy to see his name on the teamsheet, he’s a striker’s dream.
“They should not have signed him and they should not have made him captain.
“That shows how far they have fallen. Harry Maguire captain of Manchester United, dear me.”
Maguire has made 19 appearances for Man United this season, scoring one goal.
He received a red card in 20 November’s 4-1 loss to Norwich in what proved to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s last game in charge.
