Ian Maatsen passed a medical in Germany on Sunday (23 June) as he closes in on a move to Aston Villa, sources have told Football Insider.

The Midlands giants are now poised to announce the left-sided star, 22, as their second summer capture after finalising a deal for Everton's Lewis Dobbin.

Maatsen will sign a five-year deal worth in excess of £100,000-a-week with a club option of an additional 12 months.

Should that option be triggered, the deal will be worth more than £70million - including fee and wages.

The Netherlands international is currently away with his country at the European Championships in Germany but is yet to appear for Ronald Koeman's side.

Maatsen has seen his stock rise dramatically after heading to Borussia Dortmund on a six-month loan earlier this year.

He had struggled to break into Mauricio Pochettino's Chelsea side, but helped Dortmund reach the Champions League final - where they were beaten by Real Madrid at Wembley.

The 22-year-old made 23 appearances for the German side, notching three goals and two assists.

Dortmund had first refusal on a permanent deal but that has since expired, and Aston Villa have now swooped in with Unai Emery a long-term adrmier of Maatsen's talents.

The left-back, who can also play as a winger, has built first-team experience with several EFL loans and is now poised to join Villa as they plan for Champions League football in the 2024-25 campaign.
