Ian Maatsen is keen to leave Chelsea and join Borussia Dortmund permanently in the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Maatsen, 22, is on loan at Dortmund after joining the Champions League semi-finalists in January.

It is believed the Bundesliga outfit are keen to sign him permanently in the off-season following his stellar performances for the club.

Maatsen signed a two-year contract extension at Chelsea before finalising his move to Dortmund, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until June 2026.

However, it is believed a release clause was inserted into that deal - which is believed to stand at around £35million.

Fetching that figure would provide a huge summer boost for Chelsea, who face needing to sell home-grown stars to comply with Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and avoid a points deduction.

Maatsen has made 19 appearances so far with Dortmund, notching two goals and two assists.

He has started in each of those outings and is set to do so again when Edin Terzic's side travel to Parc des Princes with a 1-0 advantage in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final on Tuesday (7 May).

The left-back, who won the Championship on loan with Burnley last season, played just 376 minutes of football with Chelsea in the first half of this season.

Maatsen primarily plays as a left-back but can also star as a winger and in attacking midfield.
