Ian Wright on Tottenham 20-year-old: Forget about calling him world class
By Danny Wright
Ian Wright thinks that the debate over whether or not Tottenham’s Dele Alli is world class or not is irrelevant, and all that matters is what he can potentially offer to his club.
Alli is enjoying his football for Spurs this season, scoring 19 goals and providing 10 assists across all competitions.
But Wright is concerned that the English media is hyping up the 20-year-old too much – something which it has been accused of time and time again throughout recent history.
“Why do we have to keep labelling players as world class or not? Dele Alli’s a superb player and has great potential,” said Wright, as quoted by the BBC 606 Twitter page.

Alli has been on fire in recent weeks and found himself at the centre of attention again after playing a starring role in Spurs’ 4-0 thrashing of Watford on Saturday.

The midfielder, who has 17 senior caps for England, scored in the victory at White Hart Lane to get what was his sixth goal in seven appearances in both the Premier League and FA Cup.
There’s no doubt that Alli is destined for stardom – his £5million move from MK Dons in 2015 is looking like one of the bargains of recent football – but Wright is certainly keen to keep him grounded as he aims to reach his potential.
