Ibrox Exclusive: Kevin Phillips reveals he's a closet Rangers fan
Ex-England striker Kevin Phillips has revealed he’s a secret Rangers fan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League forward explained how “delighted” he’s been at the club’s turnaround in fortunes since Steven Gerrard took over as manager.
Rangers have lost against Hearts and draw at home to Aberdeen since the winter break to cause a major dent in their SPL title hopes.
But their end-of-2019 Old Firm triumph over Celtic has given hope that can stop their bitter rivals securing a ninth consecutive league trophy.
Phillips has been encouraged by what he’s seen of Gerrard’s team this campaign.
“I’m delighted that Rangers have caught Celtic up because them Old Firm derbies are cracking and obviously Rangers winning the last one it’s fantastic,” Phillips told Football Insider.

“They’re both huge, huge clubs with massive support but I’m so pleased Rangers are challenging again and the league is so exciting. I’m a fan of them.
“Unfortunately, as big as Rangers and Celtic are, it’s almost impossible to stop the best players heading to the Premier League.
“Neil Lennon’s working with some top class players there that have gone on and it’s been great, refreshing, to see some of the players come down here and make a big success down here, [Virgil] van Dijk being the obvious one.”
Rangers are next in action tomorrow night when they host Hibernian at Ibrox in a match they must win to put some pressure on Celtic.
Lennon’s side, who are seven points clear in the SPL having played a game more, travel to Motherwell tomorrow.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club submitted two offers for Liverpool playmaker in January.
