Jackie McNamara has revealed that loan star Ryan Kent is the only Rangers player he would want at Celtic.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Hoops legend and ex-Dundee United and Partick manager is not convinced by many of the players in Steven Gerrard’s squad ahead of this weekend’s Old Firm showdown.
Celtic wrapped up their eighth consecutive league title last weekend and are only a Scottish Cup triumph away from a remarkable third consecutive treble.
Asked which of the Rangers players he would like to take to former club Celtic, McNamara told Football Insider: “Don’t know if I’d want any of them (laughs), maybe Kent.”
The Liverpool winger is close to completing a season-long loan at Ibrox, during which he has come on leaps and bounds under Steven Gerrard.
The Rangers manager has revealed the club have registered their interest with his former club in taking Kent either on loan again next season or signing him permanently.
The 22-year-old has scored six goals and supplied nine assists in 40 Rangers games this season but McNamara warned Liverpool are in full control of the player’s destiny.
“They’re developing somebody else’s player by playing him and giving him that time,” McNamara added to Football Insider. “Had he been their player, a young player, then he could be worth a lot of money for them to cash in on to then reinvest in other players, which Celtic have done properly.”
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club are ready to hold talks over terminating the contract of 26-year-old.
