'Knowing him...' - Exclusive: Darren Bent drops first-hand insight into big Rangers news

Darren Bent insists that Jermain Defoe will be doing everything he can to make sure he is fit and available for Rangers after his injury blow.

The former Aston Villa and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, claims that Steven Gerrard will not have to worry about the 37-year-old in the same way he might Alfredo Morelos.

The Gers boss has confirmed that Defoe suffered a hamstring injury in the 4-0 friendly win over Motherwell this week.

However, having trained alongside the veteran hitman with both Tottenham and England, Bent insists Defoe will be doing everything he can away from the training ground to keep himself in tip-top shape.

Bent told Football Insider: “Knowing him, the one thing you don’t have to worry about him is that when he leaves the training ground, he’s still going to do everything in his camp, in his power, to get himself right.

“You don’t have to worry about that like you might other players. Maybe if it was Morelos and he had a hamstring injury, once he leaves the training ground he (Gerrard) would still be panicking and hoping that he’s doing everything right.

“You ain’t got to panic like that with JD.”

Bent and Defoe played alongside each other 15 times for both club and country during their playing careers.

The Rangers ace has scored 25 goals in 52 games for Gerrard’s men to date, with 17 of those netted during the 2019/20 season.

In other Rangers news, it can be revealed the club are calling every day to pull off a marquee signing.
