Noel Whelan has told Football Insider that Rangers must pull out all the stops to sign “fantastic” Ryan Kent after it emerged he is available for £7million this summer.
The former Aberdeen, Livingston and Dunfermline striker was blown away by the performance of the on-loan Liverpool winger in Sunday’s Old Firm defeat to Celtic.
Kent scored a brilliantly-taken equaliser at Parkhead as he took the fight to the hosts after Rangers were reduced to 10 men following the 31st-minute dismissal of Alfredo Morelos.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, our brilliant new columnist Whelan explained why Steven Gerrard must do everything he can to convince the Ibrox hierarchy to meet the Liverpool valuation of Kent that Sky Sports revealed is st at £7million.
“Get him in, he is a fantastic player,” Whelan said. “He was the best player on the pitch on Sunday – he stood out with his willingness, desire, pace, skill and directness. He’s got good feet and is the kind of player you can build your attack around.
“£7million is not a lot of money if you’ve got ambitions to win the league. You need to buy top players, and Ryan Kent is certainly one of those. In three years he will be worth £12million to £15million, at least.”
Kent has scored six goals and supplied a further six assists from 22 league matches this season, as well as adding a further three assists from 16 cup appearances.
He joined Rangers on a season-long loan last August, but is due to return to parent club Liverpool at the end of the current campaign.
