Rangers and Derby County are locked in another transfer battle as they closely monitor St. Johnstone goalkeeper Zander Clark ahead of the summer window, Football Insider can reveal.
Football Insider revealed last week that the Light Blues are keeping close tabs on Clark, 26, as they assess possible replacements for Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick this summer.
A Rangers source has told Football Insider English play-off contenders Derby have joined the race for Clarke in what is shaping up to be another transfer battle between their manager Frank Lampard and his former England teammate Steven Gerrard.
The Scottish and English pair are also both keen on signing Hearts defender John Souttar this summer, while Derby are expected to land Aberdeen left-back Graeme Shinnie after Rangers pulled out of the race.
Clark has emerged as a target for prominent clubs following an excellent season for St Johnstone, where he has made 40 appearances and conceded 48 goals.
The Saints could face a major battle to hang on to the 6ft 3in keeper as his contract expires in the summer of 2020 and they may find a significant offer this summer too good to refuse.
Rangers’ undisputed number one Allan McGregor blotted his copybook with a wild sending-off in their 1-0 win over Hibernian on Sunday when he aimed a karate kick at the back of Marc McNulty in the 89th minute.
It earned him a red card and ruled him out of the final Old Firm derby of the season against Celtic next weekend.
As reported by Football Insider last month, Rangers are ready to offload Alnwick, who has spent the season on loan at League One club Scunthorpe United.
Foderingham is also expected to return south of the border after playing second fiddle to McGregor all season.
