Ibrox Exclusive: Rangers board slap price tag on player as PL big guns plot swoop

Rangers are ready to demand a £25million fee for goal machine Alfredo Morelos as the Premier League big guns take increasing notice of his stunning exploits, Football Insider has learned.

Aston Villa and Crystal Palace are among the clubs south of the border keeping tabs on the Colombia international ahead of the January window.

Steven Gerrard insisted in the wake of Morelos’ double in his side’s 3-0 Scottish League Cup win over Hearts yesterday that he is “100 per cent sure” his star man is going nowhere in the winter window.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that it is a stance echoed by the Rangers board, who will not allow the striker to go without a huge fee being paid.

Chairman Dave King and his fellow directors are ready to set the asking price beyond the £20million mark.

Rangers chiefs have noted out Celtic secured £25million in the summer from Arsenal for Kieran Tierney and believe Morelos is just as valuable as the left-back.

The Colombian has now scored 20 goals from 24 appearances this season and is on course of reach the 40 mark if he continues to stay fit and avoid the disciplinary issues that clouded his first two years in Glasgow.

The 23-year-old was sent off five times last season, but has received just five bookings in the new campaign following strong criticism from Steven Gerrard of his 2018-19 conduct.

Morelos signed a new contract in March that runs until the summer of 2023 and is one of the best paid players in Scotland.

In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that Gerrard pal has shared his concern over the future of Ryan Kent at Ibrox.
