Sources: Sheffield United in advanced talks to sign new player

Wes Foderingham is in advanced talks to join high-flying Sheffield United just weeks after quitting Rangers.

The 29-year-old has been offered a contract by Chris Wilder’s side and is close to agreeing the terms of a free transfer.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that United have swooped for Foderingham to provide cover and competition for the goalkeeper’s position next season.

At Bramall Lane, the established number one is Dean Henderson, who is on a second consecutive season-long loan from Man United.

The number two for most of this season has been Simon Moore, who has been at the club for four years.

He has made four appearances in 2019-20, including two league matches against Man United when Henderson was ineligible to play.

Rangers announced at the end of May that Foderingham was among six senior stars released when their contracts expired.

He had been expected to join an EFL club and his imminent move to Bramall Lane counts as something of a surprise.

Foderingham came through the youth ranks at Fulham but has never played in the Premier League or even the English Championship.

He has spent the last five years at Rangers, where he made 143 appearances, and his previous senior experience in England came in an extensive spell at Swindon Town.

In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that Bournemouth are in pole position to beat the Ibrox giants to 26-goal striker.
