Izzy Brown is unlikely to play for Leeds United again despite Kemar Roofe missing Sunday’s Championship showdown against Aston Villa, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker claims he would be “surprised” if Brown, 22, adds to his single senior appearance for the club.
The on-loan Chelsea attacking midfielder has been given just nine minutes of first-team action since recovering from a knee injury that sidelined him for 12 months in January of this year.
He has been a regular for the Leeds Under-23s but continually been overlooked by Marcelo Bielsa, and has not even made the matchday 18 for the last seven matches despite being fit and available.
Brown could come back into the reckoning against Villa, with it confirmed on Friday that Roofe is out with a hip injury and Ezgjan Alioski missing for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
“I’d be very surprised if Izzy Brown plays for Leeds again,” Whelan told Football Insider. “There would need to be even more injuries for him to get a go.
“You wonder why Bielsa brought him, as he was injured when he joined and wasn’t fit until January. He has played plenty of Under-23s games and done well in them.
“It must be something to do with his attitude in training, or he has not done enough in training to convince Bielsa. We know he is a fantastic player, we’ve seen that at [his former loan clubs] Rotherham and Huddersfield.”
Brown is set to return to Chelsea at the end of the season, where he has a contract that runs until 2021.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that club chiefs are fuming behind the scenes after being trumped to “unbelievable” signing.
