'If it wasn't for him Villa would have been relegated ages ago' - Exclusive Bent claim

Darren Bent claims that Aston Villa would have already been relegated from the Premier League without Jack Grealish in the side.

The former Villa and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists the 24-year-old has carried the rest of his teammates in the club’s first season back in the top flight.

The Mirror report that Aston Villa have slapped an £80million price tag on their talisman’s head and will stick to their price regardless of whether they are still in the Premier League.

Bent has compared the Villans’ asking price to the £85million Manchester United spent on Harry Maguire, insisting there is no doubt that the attacking midfielder has been the standout performer of the pair.

“Listen, Harry Maguire went for £85million, a world record fee, so you look at Jack Grealish and you’d have to say Jack Grealish has had a better season than Harry Maguire,” Bent told Football Insider.

“He’s been absolutely brilliant, he’s carried Aston Villa, I’m sure if it wasn’t for him, Aston Villa would have been relegated ages ago if it hadn’t been for Jack Grealish carrying the team.

“£80million sounds about right, I don’t think that’s too expensive and I don’t think that will put off anybody.”

Grealish has seven goals and six assists in 26 Premier League appearances under his belt this season, having missed just two top-flight games.

However, Villa currently sit second from bottom in the table with 10 games to play, albeit with a game in hand over their relegation rivals.
