'I am my own biggest critic' - 15-goal Celtic star reveals why his form has slumped
Celtic forward Scott Sinclair has had a wonderful career at Celtic Park, winning the treble last season and cementing himself as a fan-favourite in the process.
However, a few lacklustre preformances this term have lead to some fans questioning whether the Englishman is the same player he was a year ago – where he earned Cletic’s player of the season.
His stats are mesmerising, tallying 15 goals, whilst contributing 12 assists this season alone – yet people label the forward as having a ‘bad season’.
Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, as quoted by The Scottish Sun, Sinclair claims that he pays incredible amounts of detail to his own performances and that the sheer amount of games he is playing has taken its toll.
“I still feel the fans are right behind me. But, trust me, I am my own biggest critic.
“Whoever criticises me is coming nowhere near the level of attention I put on myself for my performances.”
The 28-year-old wants to hit the heights of last season, where he found the net 20 times in the Scottish Premiership alone.
But the intense amount of first-team football Sinclair is earning under Brendan Rodgers has taken its toll on the former Manchester City player, having already played 34 games this season.
“I’ve probably played more games in 2017 than in the previous four seasons.
“It just goes to show — sometimes you set a level, you win player of the year and there is an expectation that you will be up there every single game, but when you keep going like that for 57 games it takes its toll.”
Sinclair only has nine League goals this season, and is battling with inconsistency in front of goal – yet the English forward has plenty of time to equal his goal-scoring heights from last season.
The 28-year-old’s next chance to prove he is still the Scott Sinclair Celtic fans know and love comes on the 20th of January, as the Hoops face Brechin in the Scottish Cup fourth round.
