I'm sure Jose wants him - Exclusive: Ex-striker blown away by Spurs link after 'Horrendous' blow
Noel Whelan has claimed that RB Leipzig forward Marcel Sabitzer would be a top signing for Tottenham – and is in no doubt Jose Mourinho is keeping a close eye on him.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former Leeds United striker suggested that the 25-year-old could provide some much needed cover up front for star man Harry Kane.
Italian outlet Calcio Mercato reported earlier this week that Spurs are willing to battle bitter rivals Arsenal for the Austria international, who struck twice during their Champions League defeat to Leipzig on Tuesday night.
And Whelan is very much onboard with the idea.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “He [Sabitzer] is a very talented player, he’s lively.
“Is he going take over Harry Kane’s place? No, but what they do need is more strength in depth in that centre forward position. Harry’s been blighted with injuries this season, they haven’t had another natural centre forward to go to.

“I think Jose’s recognising that’s an area in team where they need to have more options.
“Times like this, when they’ve got a horrendous injury list, he’s now planning for next season. I’m sure he’ll be keeping tabs on him, and other strikers as well.”
Spurs crashed out of Europe thanks to a 4-0 aggregate defeat against Sabitzer’s current employers in midweek, with the player himself scoring an early brace to put the tie beyond doubt on the night.
So far this season, the attacker has registered 15 goals and eight assists in 35 appearances across all competitions for the Bundesliga side.
