Paul Robinson has tipped Leeds United loan star Ben White to form a formidable partnership with Virgil van Dijk if Liverpool sign the defender this summer.
The former United keeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, has been told the Merseyside giants are keeping close tabs on the Brighton-owned 22-year-old and is confident he will be playing at a top-six club next season.
White is known for his calmness on the ball which has even led to him being deployed in holding midfield by Marcelo Bielsa when Kalvin Phillips in unavailable.
When asked by Football Insider if the English defender is good enough to push Joe Gomez out of the team, Robinson said: “Without a shadow of a doubt.
“Liverpool will be monitoring him very closely. It is going to be very tough for Leeds to hold onto him. From a Leeds point of view, you would like to think they could hold onto him but it will be very difficult.
“Brighton will want him back and I’m told Liverpool are already looking at him – as others will. If Brighton go down it will be a certainty he goes. I can see him playing for a top-six side next season.
“He would certainly be in the frame to get a start. He has served his apprenticeships. Alongside van Dijk, he would grow in stature and it would be an outstanding partnership.”
White, on a season-long loan at Leeds from Brighton, has been ever-present in the Championship this campaign – making 37 appearances.
