Newcastle striker Islam Slimani has said that he wants to play regularly and score goals for Newcastle but that the most important thing is that the side wins – for the new striker, points come first.
Slimani signed on loan for Newcastle on deadline day and Benitez is desperate for a regular goal scorer at St James’ Park.
Unfortunately, Slimani hasn’t been fit to play yet for Newcastle since his move after arriving with a knock.
And he’s in a race against time to be fit for the next Premier League game against Bournemouth next Saturday.
Talking in the Chronicle, Slimani said that he wants to start playing for his new side as soon as possible but is aware he will have to fight for his place in Bentiez’s side.
He has only made 15 starts in the Premier League since his big-money move to Leicester and is clearly hoping for a change of fortunes at Newcastle.
“I like to play regularly. That’s what my aim is and that’s what I have always wanted to do.
“I am going to fight for my place and be able to play as much as possible. Football is my passion and I want to show what I can do.”
“The most important thing for me is to win games, that comes before me scoring personally or personal glory.
“No matter who scores the most important thing is to win. Obviously, I want to get goals as quickly as possible but points come first.”
Newcastle play Bournemouth away next Saturday in a 3pm kick-off.
