Chris Sutton has claimed that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers will spend big in the summer to combat the thread posed by new Rangers boss Steven Gerrard.
The Gerrard revolution begins on the 1st of June when he takes over at Ibrox but the former Celtic striker believes that Rodgers will take the challenge seriously and that the Hoops will spend some of the money that they have gathered following their successful qualifications for the Champions League group stages in recent years.
“Brendan Rodgers has been stacking up Champions League money for a couple of seasons, you cannot tell me Brendan Rodgers will be looking over his shoulders and thinking there is no chance of them, Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister, taking over in Scotland, Steven Gerrard has talked positively of that, but Celtic are in another league,” Sutton said, whist making an appearance on BBC Radio 5 Live.

The Hoops recently won their seventh title in a row, and the Gers will have a big task on their hands to stop the Bhoys making it eight in a row next season.
Football Insider verdict
Sutton may think that the Hoops will spend big in the summer, but that isn’t what the Hoops normally do, and that doesn’t seem likely to change following the appointment of Gerrard. The most the Bhoys have spent in recent years is £4.5million on Olivier Ntcham, and it would be a bit of surprise if the Bhoys spend more than that on any one player in the summer, although if the Bhoys want to sign Odsonne Edouard on a permanent deal, they will have to spend more than that. If Moussa Dembele leaves in the summer then the Bhoys might well look to spend big, but only time will tell on that, but contrary to what Sutton believes, the Hoops won’t change their transfer policy of signing players for a low fee then selling them for a large profit just because the Gers have taken a gamble on Gerrard, but it will no doubt add intrigue to the summer months.
