'Incredible' - Exclusive: Danny Mills blown away by West Ham signing

Danny Mills believes West Ham new boy Jarrod Bowen was a “very shrewd” piece of transfer business and backs the winger to make an “incredible” impact.

The former Leeds United full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider Assistant Editor Russell Edge, says the 23-year-old could have an “impact immediately” and help keep the Hammers up.

Bowen arrived on deadline day from Hull City in a deal said to be worth £22million.

The wide-forward leaves the Tigers after scoring 16 goals in 29 appearances in the Championship this season.

Asked if Bowen has what it takes to be a success in the Premier League, Mills told Football Insider: “You can’t see why not. When you look at other teams that have come up and players that have done well, players at the likes of Brighton, Bournemouth, Sheffield United.

“He was in the team of the year last year in the Championship, 16 goals at Hull this season, a wide player that’s got plenty of energy – I think it’s a very shrewd move from West Ham.

“The fee wasn’t extortionate, they get a player that could make an impact immediately, might nick you a few goals and might help to keep you up but if it’s not to be the case you’ve got a player who’s going to be incredible next year in the Championship if not the Premier League.”

“It’s a shrewd move I think. I think he can be a success in the Premier League but also if the worst happens to West Ham they’ve got a player who can help fire them back into it.”

David Moyes will hope Bowen can hit the ground running at the London Stadium, with his side currently in the relegation zone.

But it will not be an easy start for the Englishman with Manchester City and Liverpool up next for West Ham.
