'Incredible' - Exclusive: Kevin Phillips buzzing ahead of trip to watch Aston Villa v Watford

Kevin Phillips admits that he is buzzing to see Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish play in person in the club’s clash against Watford.

The former Villa and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the 24-year-old is just getting better and better in the Premier League after dazzling in the Championship last season.

Grealish has been a talisman for Dean Smith’s side this season, scoring nine goals and contributing six assists across all competitions.

With Grealish set to take his place in the starting XI for Tuesday’s home tie against Watford, Phillips, who will be in attendance at Villa Park, says he cannot wait to watch the Villans ace with his own eyes.

“He’s a fantastic player, I’m going to the game tonight (Tuesday) so I’m looking forward to watching him play live,” Phillips told Football Insider.

“He’s their captain, their talisman, what I like about him is for a young guy, he’s leading by example as well and you have to give credit to that player, of course.

“The only issue with Villa is – and I know they signed Samatta – who is going to score the goals to keep them in the Premier League? At the moment it looks like it’s falling on Jack’s shoulders and he’s doing an incredible job.”

Villa head into Tuesday’s clash against Watford off the back of a 1-1 draw with Brighton, Grealish netting the equalising goal for Smith’s men.

They currently sit 18th in the table, one point and one place behind the Hornets.

In other Aston Villa news, Darren Bent has ripped into a senior player he was “excited” about this season after an official statement from the club.
