Frank McAvennie has heaped praise on Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell after the club announced an “incredible” new commercial deal with JD Sports.

The former Hoops and Saint Mirren striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested that the deal showed the Glasgow giants global marketability to be on par with that of Liverpool and Manchester United.

The Hoops confirmed yesterday that the UK sport-fashion company would become the official retail partner of the Scottish Premiership champions.

The news was shortly followed by the confirmation of Adidas becoming the club’s new kit supplier on a five-year agreement, taking over from New Balance.

McAvennie claimed that the deal was fantastic for both Celtic and JD Sports.

“I think it is great,” he told Football Insider“JD will be delighted.
