Celtic 'massively worried' after injury update as bust-up on the cards - pundit
Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is 'massively worried' by the prospect of his players suffering injuries in the international break and a club-v-country bust-up is on the cards.
That is the view of former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Hoops manager's comments after the 2-1 win at Aberdeen.
As quoted by the Daily Record (October 4th), Postecoglou told Sky Sports his players shouldn't "bother coming back" if they get injured for their country.
It comes after Celtic suffered injuries to a number of key players, including Kyogo Furuhashi after the last interantional break.
The Bhoys have crucial games against Motherwell and Ferencvaros when the club schedule resumes.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Postecoglou's comments, Robinson said:
"It's a massive worry for managers and even more so for Postecoglou given Celtic's injury problems.
"But, at the end of the day there is nothing they can do. It is of fact of football and it has been for years. We have seen managers try to pull players out of international squads in the past.
"I have been part of squads where players have had slight niggles and have come off 10 minutes before the end of the game before the international break.
"The international teams aren't silly. They have their own doctors and medical teams who will not take risks with the players. The domestic clubs need to trust them.
"There is always going to be a club v country row. Managers find it difficult to let players go, especially when they're playing well. You don't want to run the risk of injury or isolation, which is another thing that has to be taken into consideration."
