Liverpool have confirmed that they will have Daniel Sturridge ready for the start of the Premier League season despite him picking up a thigh injury on Tuesday night.

The 27-year-old was forced off the pitch in the Audi Cup clash against Bayern Munich after he scored in his side's 3-0 win.

There have been many concerns about Sturridge's fitness due to him suffering numerous spells on the sidelines in recent years.

However a statement on Liverpool's official club website confirmed that it is very unlikely that he will miss more than just Wednesday's friendly clash with Atletico Madrid.

The Reds announced that the former Chelsea man will be monitored by the club's medical staff and that there is no need for him to undergo a scan.

This news is no doubt a major boost for the Reds, who will need as many fir players as possible as they prepare for a return to Champions League football.

Sturridge scored seven goals and supplied three assists in 27 appearances across all competitions as Jurgen Klopp's men secured a top four spot in the Premier League.

However the England international was reduced to just seven starts in the league due to problems with hip and calf injuries.
