Tottenham expert suggests how bad James Maddison injury really is after what he spotted
James Maddison's injury may not be as bad as it looked for Tottenham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs defender Alan Hutton suggested the protective boot Maddison was spotted in when leaving the stadium on Saturday (19 August) may have just been a precaution.
As relayed by the Evening Standard (21 August), the 26-year-old was also seen on crutches following the Lilywhites' 2-0 win over Man United.
The former Leicester star joined Ange Postecoglou's side this summer and has already established himself as an important member of the new-look Tottenham side.
The midfielder has played the full 90 minutes in both of Spurs' Premier League games and fans will be hopeful that he is available for Saturday's (26 August) match against Bournemouth.
Hutton insisted there is no cause for alarm in the Tottenham camp.
"It could be just for precaution," he told Football Insider.
"From what I know, I have seen it lots of times where you are trying to protect something just for a couple of days so it could be that.
"It would be a blow to lose him for any length of time. For me last season, he was the kind of the missing piece, the person that linked the midfield to the attackers.
"Harry Kane kept on dropping and doing stuff like that so to have Maddison there and available, that is where he flourishes so you would not want to lose him for any period of time.
"You can see the team working well under the new manager so you want all your top players fit."
