Injury expert: Romero may need 'surgery' after potentially 'season-ending' setback at Tottenham
Cristian Romero could be out for the season in the worst-case scenario at Tottenham.
So says injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.
Romero has not featured for Spurs since the 0-0 draw with Everton on 7 November after suffering a hamstring problem.
As quoted by Sky Sports on Wednesday (1 November), manager Antonio Conte admitted that the 23-year-old centre-back's injury is "very serious".
Dinnery predicts that the full extent of Romero's condition will be known after Spurs speak to a hamstring specialist.
"I would hope it isn't anything worse than a grade two injury," he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
"If we are talking grade three and a potential rupture, we're talking surgery, possibly even a season-ending situation.
"It could be that Spurs are waiting to speak to specialists and determine the full extent of Cristian Romero's problem.
"But it is certainly something more than a minor setback. I wouldn't expect him to play again this year.
"If it is a high-end grade two, six to eight weeks is more than realistic.
"That is a blow but we have to wait and determine the full extent of that problem with further imaging."
Romero, a 10-cap Argentina international, signed for Spurs from Atalanta in the summer.
He has featured 13 times in all competitions, picking up five yellow cards and one red across those appearances.
