Injury expert issues Wilson warning after Newcastle training pictures emerge pre-Tottenham
Issues “outside of football” are at play as whoever is managing Newcastle on Sunday faces a tough call over Callum Wilson’s fitness.
That is according to medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.
Wilson, 29, has been pictured taking part in first-team training ahead of Sunday’s game against Spurs.
This came after a Newcastle source told Football Insider that Wilson is increasingly confident he will be available after the international break.
Dinnery claims these pictures don’t show the full story and insisted any decision on the striker will be taken as late as possible.
“This is Wilson’s fourth injury this year,” Dinnery told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“Another soft tissue issue. I think the takeover and the question marks over Steve Bruce, this is where issues outside of football come into play.
“If Bruce stays, he might want to go out with a bang, so to speak, and play Wilson in from the start.
“If he breaks down during the game, it’s not Bruce’s problem. I’m not saying that’s the case.
“Any caretaker manager might decide to manage the player and not start him considering his injury history.
“Wilson is pivotal to Newcastle, at least until January because he’s the only one capable of scoring goals.
“Will Wilson want to play? Of course, he will. The place will be absolutely buzzing.
“From a medical standpoint, he is a player that needs to be managed and just because he has been pictured in training, that doesn’t give you a full understanding.
“Any decision could be left until the last minute.”
