Insider makes 'hugely worrying' Lloris claim after Tottenham latest

Emiliano Martinez would be a great signing for Tottenham but the club should offer Hugo Lloris a new deal.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Lloris, 34, remains Tottenham’s number one and has played every minute of Premier League football this season.

The World Cup winner is out of contract in the summer of 2022 and is yet to agree an extension with the club.

On 29 October, The Independent claimed Martinez, 29, is top of the club’s wishlist in the event Lloris leaves.

Wenham would love to see Martinez at Spurs but would rather the club offered Lloris a new deal.

“Tottenham have to protect themselves,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Obviously Hugo only has a few months left on his contract and can sign a pre-contract deal in January.

“It’s hugely worrying. I would rather we kept hold of Lloris and gave him another deal over signing another keeper.

“If we were to lose Lloris, Martinez would be that high-profile replacement.

“Obviously, he’s worked with Romero and Lo Celso in the Argentina national side.

“He’s gone from strength to strength since leaving Arsenal and proven himself as a top-level keeper.

“Moving to Tottenham after everything that happened with Arsenal would endear him to the support straight away.

“If Lloris is to go, Martinez would be my number one target to replace him.

“As I say, I hope we can just keep Lloris.”

Martinez has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best keepers since leaving Arsenal in 2020.

He has made nine league appearances this season.
