Insider: West Ham close in on deal for midfielder with CL experience as player wants move

West Ham United are thought to be closing in on a deal for £20m-rated Anderlecht midfielder Leander Dendoncker, according to an insider.
ExWHUemployee, a reliable source of West Ham information, said on Twitter, ‘We are getting closer to agreeing a deal for Dendoncker, still some way to go though’.
This information has also been backed up by Sky Sports and Kristof Terreur of HLN on Twitter.
Terreur claimed that the player is rated at £20m.

According to prominent Belgian journalist Terreur, the Hammers assistant manager Stuart Pearce flew out to Belgium at the weekend to watch the 22-year-old in action as Anderlecht beat Genk 1-0 during a game he was used as a centre-back.

Terreur revealed on social media that the midfielder would be keen on a move to England but the Belgian outfit are not wanting to transfer the player.
Dendonker already has four senior caps to his name and experience in the Champions League, and his versatility would be useful to the Irons manager David Moyes who will undoubtedly be impressed by the youngster’s work rate, passing and tackling ability.
Football Insider verdict:
It would seem that the wheels are in motion for this deal but Moyes needs to speed things up if he is going to capture his target in time. The Hammers need stability in the ranks and with a host of injuries to a number of key players, Dendoncker is the sort of player that could give his side a boost and help them to secure their Premier League survival. At 22, the Belgium international plays with a mature head on his shoulders and having already featured in the Champions League for his club side can offer his European experience into the mix too. However, as Anderlecht are not looking to part ways with one of their prized possessions, it could be a tough ask for the East London club to pull this off.
